On the morning of February 20, 2025, D23 Journalism students embarked on a field trip to the Vietnam News Agency (VNA) headquarters and its electronic newspaper, VietnamPlus. The visit offered more than just an immersive look into a professional newsroom; it also provided an in-depth exploration of the trends shaping journalism in the digital age.

At the VNA headquarters at 5 Ly Thuong Kiet Street, students gained firsthand insight into the operations and information-gathering mission of Vietnam’s state news agency. Observing reporters and editors in action painted a vivid picture of the relentless, fast-paced environment inside a top–tier media organization.

During the field trip, D23 students were also introduced to the rapidly developing field of digital journalism at VietnamPlus . Guided by Mr. Nguyen Hoang Nhat, Deputy Editor-in-Chief, and Mr. Tran Ngoc Long, Head of the Multimedia Department, students explored data journalism, interactive infographics, and cutting-edge storytelling technologies like AR and VR. The engaging exchange underscored the continuous innovation demanded by today’s digital media landscape.

Navigating Careers in the New Era

Beyond observation, the trip featured a direct Q&A session with veteran journalists. Addressing student concerns about career prospects in the age of artificial intelligence, the speakers offered clear, pragmatic guidance. They emphasized that while mastering digital tools is essential, the irreplaceable core of the profession remains critical journalistic thinking, analytical skills, and an acute news sense.

The experience took on a deeper meaning as students visited the VNA Tradition Room. Viewing historical footage and archives that documented the agency’s arduous early days instilled a profound respect for the journalistic mission, inspiring this next generation of reporters to value the path they’ve chosen.

A Continuous Journey of Growth

As the field trip concluded, the D23 students walked away with invaluable lessons, practical advice, and renewed inspiration from media veterans. This fresh perspective serves as a powerful motivator for these future journalists to continuously hone their craft, build their resilience, and step confidently into the digital media era.
