Stepping outside the classroom, Multimedia Communication students had the opportunity to explore the Vietnam National Fine Arts Museum. During the visit, the students took on the role of “guides”, introducing Prof. Lisa Scharoun to the history, artworks, and cultural values of Vietnamese fine arts.

The visit offered Prof. Lisa Scharoun an opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of Vietnamese culture and art, while providing students with valuable experience in using English, communicating, and sharing their knowledge in practice. Students introduced Prof. Lisa Scharoun to key stages in the development of Vietnamese fine arts, highlighting traditional materials and techniques such as lacquer and silk painting, as well as the cultural stories behind the artworks and artefacts on display.

Through conversations and discussions in English, Prof. Lisa Scharoun and Multimedia Communication students had the opportunity to exchange ideas about art and design, while exploring the connections between traditional and contemporary values. The students shared their understanding of Vietnamese fine arts and, at the same time, gained new perspectives from an international design expert.

The activity also created an open academic exchange where cultural and artistic knowledge could be connected with design thinking and international perspectives. Using English throughout the presentations and discussions allowed students to apply their language skills in a practical context while developing their presentation, communication, and discussion skills.
