On the afternoon of September 18, 2026, the Faculty of Multimedia at Posts and Telecommunications Institute of Technology (PTIT) hosted an academic workshop with Professor Lisa Scharoun, Head of the School of Design at Queensland University of Technology (QUT), Australia. The workshop focused on approaches to renewing graphic design education in the context of rapid developments in artificial intelligence (AI) and their growing impact on creative practices. The workshop was attended by Dr. Le Thi Hang, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Multimedia, along with lecturers from the Departments of Multimedia Technology, Multimedia Communication, and Journalism.

Under the theme “Graphic Design Education in the Age of AI: What Should We Keep, Change, and Add?”, the workshop provided a forum for academic exchange on emerging requirements for graphic design education as AI technologies become increasingly integrated into creative processes and professional practice.

At the workshop, participants focused on three key directions for graphic design education in response to the development of AI. These included maintaining aesthetic thinking, creativity, and a strong understanding of local cultural contexts as essential values in design education. At the same time, the discussion highlighted the need to renew teaching methodologies and appropriately integrate AI tools into the learning process, enabling students to proactively adapt to changes in the design field.

Alongside the adoption of emerging technologies, the workshop emphasized the importance of fundamental competencies such as problem-solving, critical thinking, and adaptability. These competencies were considered essential to helping students develop their creative capabilities proactively and independently, rather than relying solely on technological tools throughout the design process.
